YouTube to unveil paid subscription model in next few months

Google has been striving to wean YouTube from its dependence on ad revenues for some time now. The world?s largest streaming site, which has been offering paid channel subscriptions since 2013 and an ad-free, paid music experience called Music Key (currently in invitation-only beta) since November, looks set to take things a step further.CNBC reports that YouTube?s head of content and business acquisitions, Robert Kyncl, revealed Wednesday at the Code/Media conference in Laguna Niguel, California that the site plans to launch a subscription model within the next few months. Japan's telecom carrier SoftBank paid vice president and ex-Google executive Nikesh Arora a whopping $135 million in the year to March, reports said Saturday. Arora gave up his high-profile post at the Internet search giant to join the Japanese firm in October last year. SoftBank's official filing showed it paid 16.556 billion yen ($135 million) to Arora, who has been repeatedly showered with praise by the company's billionaire founder Masayoshi Son, according to local reports.
